In Gumraah, the police think they are presented with a clear-cut case once they have a photo of their murder suspect. However, they are in for a rude surprise and their case falls apart when they discover two identical men as their suspects. As they try to figure out the mystery, the film also takes us into the lives of the suspects. Is it revenge or cold-blooded murder?
Aditya Roy Kapur plays a double role for the first time in his career. While Mrunal Thakur and Ronit Bose play the police officers who are hot on the trails of the two suspects. Which is one is the liar and which one is telling the truth? The Gumraah trailer hints at a possibility of retribution for one or the other.
Mrunal Thakur shared the trailer of the film on Instagram and wrote, “Har kahani ke do pehlu hote hain, Sach aur Jhooth; lekin iss kahani ke pehlu hain Gunaah aur Gumraah (There are two sides to every story, truth and lies, but in this story, there is a crime and one who is lost)! “
The suspense drama is said to be inspired by true events. The suspects are also poles apart. One is polished and respectable, while the other is a thug with a short temper. Much of the film also seems to revolve around the police’s interrogation of the two suspects as they aim to solve the brutal murder of a young man.
First-time filmmaker Vardhan Ketkar has previously assisted on movies like Brothers (2015), Kapoor & Sons (2016) and Mubarakan (2017). Gumraah is produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios. It is the Hindi remake of the 2019 Tamil hit Thadam with Arun Vijay and Vidya Pradeep. The thriller will release in theatres on April 7, 2023.
Aditya was recently seen in the Hindi adaptation of the BBC series The Night Manager alongside Anil Kapoor. He played an ex-soldier and hotel employee who is roped into taking down a notorious arms dealer. Mrunal, who had a special appearance in the Akshay Kumar-starrer Selfiee last month, was last seen in the Telugu hit film Sita Raman (2022) with Dulquer Salmaan.
